No one likes to move. In Portland, I have yet to encounter a client that enjoys moving.
But how can we all make it as painless and stress free as possible?
BE READY!!
I'd say about 50% of the time our crews show up on moves we find our clients aren't completely packed or aren't ready to move. This can vary from a few boxes needing to be taped up to clients looking like they forgot they scheduled us to move them that day. This poses a problem for us for a number of reasons.
Common Questions:
"Can you guys start loading the furniture while we pack everything else? Then you can load all the boxes and stuff?"
~We pack your truck in a certain order to maximize the amount of space in it. We always start with boxes and furniture items that provide a stable base for more boxes. This allows us to do you move in as few "trips" possible by being able to pack the truck as tightly as possible. This also helps protect your belongings. A tightly packed truck means less movement as you're driving to your new home or storage unit.
~When things aren't packed then we end up waiting around for our customers to pack their things. This takes time and cost you money. We're on the clock after the contract is signed and having our crew stand around and wait for you to pack your things can get expensive for you.
~To have us carrying dressers, chests, beds, couches, etc. around your home while you are packing and stacking can be dangerous. We can't be stepping over boxes and other items in hallways while carrying your heavy things. We could get hurt, items or property could get damaged, your family, friends, or pets could get hurt.
"Can you please be careful with our TV's? How do you protect those in the truck?"
We have the ability to protect your electronics, mirrors, pictures, etc inside the truck. HOWEVER, in most cases our clients prefer to transport those in their own private vehicles. It is safer if it will fit in your car or truck AND your expensive or fragile items are in your possession the entire day. YOU supervise who has it and where it is at all times. I have owned this company for years and we have NEVER damaged a Television. If you have the means to put your TV in the original packaging then that is another great way to protect it.
"Can you move this dresser over to that wall? Wait, I don't like that there. Let's move it over here. Wait, that doesn't look right either. How about...."
We often are asked to place furniture where it will eventually end up permanently. However, we do run into clients that aren't sure where things will end up and during the unloading of the truck we are asked to "...move this to there and that to here." We ask that if you need us to help you "Decorate" and "Arrange" we will do that after the truck is fully unloaded. Why? Because we find that once the truck is unloaded we can focus more of our attention on helping you. Arranging your furniture is something we will be happy to do for you but we want to handle one thing at a time. Remember, we are on the clock until you tell us you don't need us anymore.
